Niazek Fm

Period:
Triassic

Age Interval:
Ladinian-Carnian (T2-3), E-Psh1

Province:
East Tajik (East Pamir)

Type Locality and Naming

Includes in East Pshart.

Synonym: Niazek layer, Ниязекская толща

Reference section:

Lithology and Thickness

It is composed of greenstone-altered volcanic rocks of basic composition. In the lower and upper parts, there are beds of metamorphosed sandstones, sandstone-siltstone rocks, and limestones.

Lithology Pattern:
Volcanics

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The lower contact of the layer is tectonic

Upper contact

The upper contact represents an eroded surface, on which the Lower Jurassic Jerunsay Fm lies without apparent angular discordance.

Regional extent

It is exposed to the west of the Muzdubulak Fm (муздубулакской толщи) outcrops, in the basin of the Kayindy River.

Fossils

No organic remains have been found in the layer.

Age

Similar in composition to the Ladinian-Carnian volcanics of the Kattamardzhana Fm, relative to the Musdubulak Fm, it apparently occupies a lower stratigraphic position. Hence it is considered as Middle-Upper Triassic for schematic stratigraphic column purpose.
